The violin sonatas are performed by Madeleine Mitchell (violin) and Andrew Ball (piano), both professors of music at the Royal College of Music. The sonatas on this CD represent a golden era in the history of the Royal College of Music, which has produced an impressive array of British composers and performers since the 1880s. Hurlstone and Goossens both studied under Stanford at the RCM, while Percy Turnbull studied under Holst, Vaughan Williams and John Ireland.
