Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco was a teacher of film music at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music whose pupils included Henry Mancini, Andre Previn, Nelson Riddle and John Williams. Though chiefly remembered in the concert-hall for his copious guitar music, he produced a corpus of music for piano solo spanning his entire career from the age of 10 onwards. The rewarding repertoire on this CD breathes the warmth of the Mediterranean, from the sunkissed shores of the composer's Italian homeland to the more exotic realms of King David.
