However, it does include one of his recent masterpieces: Ende der Handschrift, settings of 11 poems by Heiner Müller composed in 1999 as a memorial to the writer and dramatist. Müller's poems are concerned with death, and Rihm's setting of them is generally restrained - thought that restraint only seems to magnify the sense of loss lurking beneath the music's surface."
