British Music Performance hits a high spot

Music for Massed Basses

The tutti double bass catalogue continues to expand not only with the number of items in the catalogue but also with the number of double basses in the pieces. This latest batch of music has quartets, octets and even dodecatets 12 double basses to the uninitiated. These new works embrace music by traditional composers arranged by experienced double bass players as well as original new works. Take a look at the music sample of the Arietta for 12 by Teppo which makes use of the high harmonics of the instrument.

Double bass playing is enjoying a real renaissance and this is absolutely the sort of double bass music to bring players together. It is just a case of finding a room big enough for them all to play at the same time!
