This one movement string quartet, circa seven minutes in duration, is built around a simple four note arch form, which the four protagonists explore with increasing decoration, and exchanging of pace and ways of presentation. The texture eventually reaches a density from which they escape by shooting up to high registers and drastically slowing the whole enterprise down - and that is quite enough to be going on with here!: what happens after that you will discover when you buy . . . It would make a good introduction to modernist procedures (without 'advanced' techniques) for quartets interested in exploring out of the traditional repertoire. Which doesn't mean it sounds unpleasant(!): some of it is quite beautiful.
