German bassist-composer Stefan Schafer has beautifully transcribed the intermezzo from Bizet's timeless opera, Carmen. The Spanish mood and idiom work well for double bass octet and its repetitive castanet-like rhythm pervades the whole work. Much of the melodic interest is shared between basses 1-4 and this is great music for any audience. [Score and Parts]
