Chaconne is a set of variations over a chromatic descending line. There are six variations: a dramatic opening recitative, a variation using a characteristic bowing style of two slurred and two separate notes, groups of repeated notes in dialogue with pizzicato chords, a slow variation with high harmonics, one with irregular metres, and fast final moto perpetuo.
Bulgarian rhythms are rhythms in fast irregular metres, such as 5/8 or 7/8. Bulgarian Etude is a virtuoso caprice in constant sixteenth notes with contantly changing irregular metres. Melodies are picked out on the higher and lower strings.
