The myth of Orpheus and his ill-fated descent into Hades to rescue his wife, Eurydice, has captured the imagination of many composers, notably Peri, Monteverdi and Gluck, but Offenbach creates a comic 'send-up' of the myth, with lots of lively melodies, culminating in the famous Can-Can.
"....It is full of good tunes and rhythmic fun. Here, Sylvia Fairley has selected several of the most famous tunes and arranged them neatly for two flutes and two clarinets. Every part has its share of melodic interest, and I'm sure that four players of grade 4 - 5 standard would enjoy playing this selection very much." PAN magazine 2005.
