John Alexander won the 1999 British and International Bassfest Composition Contest and has written a number of significant works for double bass. Haiku Journey is a short contemporary solo, adapted for double bass by the composer. A hauntingly atmospheric stillness permeates the work. It is dedicated to the memory of composer Dudley Hyams and evokes an ethereal simplicity within a 20th century vocabulary.
