John McCabe Fantasy on a Theme of Liszt. "The Fantasy on a Theme of Liszt (1967) is drawn from the opening theme of Liszt's Faust Symphony. That theme is never quite heard note-for-note anywhere in the piece but serves as the driving force for the music's ebb and flow of often colorfully dissonant passages of calm and turmoil in virtuoso Romantic style." Nigel Clarke Solstice Solstice evokes images of pagan rites which have been (and indeed still are) witnessed at Stonehenge and other ancient sites and "has some of the strongest imagery to be heard".
