Russia has enriched the world with a notable canon of harp literature in the last two hundred or so years, but this repertoire has not all gained international status or note. This CD aims to begin, at least, to redress that situation and certainly goes a long way to refute Tschaikovsky’s statement that the harp was incapable of playing melodies. Many of the composers of the music on this recording would certainly have been more famous had they been pianists, and the quality of their music stands alongside many of their celebrated countrymen.
