Gordon Jacob composed his Trio for flute, oboe and harpsichord for the Sylvan Trio. Sarah Francis was the oboist for the original performance in the Wigmore Hall with her parents John Francis (flute) and Millicent Silver (harpsichord). Sarah tells us that Gordon particularly liked her mother's harpsichord which is by Goble and is the instrument Howard Beach is playing on this CD.
Gordon Jacob started composing at school. At 18 he volunteered to fight in the first world war but was taken prisoner and then composed pieces for his fellow prisoners in the POW camp.
On this CD:
Quartet for Oboe & Strings
Six Shakespearian Sketches
Sonata for Oboe and Piano
Sonatina for Violin Solo
Trio for Flute, Oboe and Harpsichord
