Jil Bartley writes -
"In the year 1993, composition reintroduced itself to me. I had a real desire to write a choral work using the text of the Latin Requiem Mass.
I began to sketch a piano score, then the following year (1994) I moved to Southern France.
Once installed at Tourrettes sur Loup, the work poured out and a piano/choral Score of Requiem was completed in 1996.
Although the latin text from the Requiem Mass has been used for this work, it is in no way a sad or miserable musical expression!
On the contrary, it is full of joy and is a celebration of the 'Ascension' rather than the 'Death'."
Requiem has been performed widely in Europe. It received its UK premiere at Arundel Cathedral in 2006.
