The Roaring Whirl was begun in 1988 and revised in 1992 as part of the Nottingham Now Festival of contemporary arts when it was staged at the Arts Theatre with hanging mobiles and kathak dance. It has been performed live on many occasions and is recorded here for a wider audience. Golden Spokes of the Sloping Sun is the 6th and final narrative and is constructed on the night-time raga, 'Bhupali'. The performers are Geraldine Allen (clarinet), Baluji Shrivastav (sitar) and Timothy Walker (guitar). Electronic manipulation is controlled by the composer, Sarah Rodgers.
