This CD contains the first recordings of new pieces by Lerich, Cronin and Zahnhausen, as well as well known items by Handel and Vivaldi.
A fine UK recording debut for Australian virtuoso Tamara and Gries, and a hand-picked chamber ensemble.
-- A lovely and unpretentious CD from Divine Art has arrived. It is called "Woodworks" (25019) and showcases Tamara Gries and her recorder. Backed up by a chamber group of 10 players, the artist gives us some modern selections by Rudolf Lerich, Stephen Cronin and Markus Zahnhausen, along with some "classics" by Handel, Couperin and Vivaldi. My favorites are the four selections of Masque music from 1600 near the top of the program.
The players of the supporting instruments -- bassoon, harpsichord, violins, viola, celli and double bass -- must share the playing honors with the star.
The modern works are surprisingly beautiful (no tonal rows here to interest the musician and bore the general public). I have already played and will be playing this one many times for restful ambient music and I feel you will too.
