Wilfred Josephs was born in Newcastle-upn-Tyne in 1927 and studied at the Guildhall School of Music in London. He was awarded a Leverhulm Trust Scholarship in 1958 enabling him to study with Max Deutsch in Paris.
The quality, diversity and sheer quantity of Josephs' output cannot fail but to impress. His openness to stylistic innovation throughout his working life and the expertise and fluency of his composition testify to a composer of substantial and consistent inspiration and technical facility.
Wilfred Josephs died shortly after his 70th birthday in 1997.
