13-Step Dance Suite for violin and piano consists of four dances, each based on a distinct metrical pattern which adds to 13 beats. The harmonic and melodic material proceeds in a series of tetracords, gradually changing pools of four notes. Due to these limitations in rhythm and pitch, an air of directness, simplicity and sparseness pervades the set.
