A Christmas Carol by Philip Seaton is a musical adaptation of the classic Christmas tale by Charles Dickens - but with a twist. Scrooge is living in present-day London. The Spirit of Christmas Past takes him back to the bleak midwinter of 1914 and the game of football in no-man's-land during the Christmas truce. The Spirit of Christmas Present takes Scrooge on a walk through the streets of London today. But who is the Spirit of Christmas Future, and what is the message she brings that will make Scrooge change his ways?
A Christmas Carol is a set of themes and variations on popular Christmas carols. The movements are interspersed with readings from Dickens' novel in the manner of a service of lessons and carols. The result is a thought-provoking, but ultimately uplifting, musical tale full of the spirit of Christmas.
Scored for choir (SATB) and organ, A Christmas Carol is an accessible piece for both amateur and professional choirs. It lasts 30 minutes with narrations, or 22 minutes without narrations.
