A Reed in the Wind won the Wangford Festival Prize in 1981. For over 22 years the piece remained on hte Associated Board Syllabus. It can currently be heard on the Oboe CD of the ABRSM syllabus.
It was performed by Sarah Francis originally in Wangford Church, and broadcast by her in 1982 in "British Oboe Music" is listed in the Associated Board Grade 8 syllabus for oboe. Duration 12 mins.
It has received numerous performances by various oboists, notably Sarah Francis, Sylvia Harper, Jennifer Porcas, and Catherine Pluygers. It received a new interpretation by the young oboist Nicholas Bloomfield, which is one of the pieces presented on the Metier CD MSV CD92066 available from Tutti.
