From the cusp of the Renaissance and early Baroque comes a beautiful song from Josquin and an early contrapuntal imitative Ricercar (precursor of the fugue) from Andrea Gabrielli, uncle of the better known Giovanni. The lower instruments dip in and out, renewing and underlining the sonorousness of the quartet form.
