Solo music suitable for flute, alto flute or piccolo, lasting 10 minutes. The music depicts a series of landscapes suggested by the famous names of watercolour shades: A Frontispiece; Eau de Nil; Crimson Lake (Sunset) and Oresund ( a hornpipe for Piccolo).
This solo piece has been much performed, in particular by Nancy Ruffer. It contains a few overblown harmonic techniques, and some simple pitch bends. Although moderately difficult, it would intrigue a player looking for a colourful and evocative piece; and the flautist could adapt tempos to their own skill.
