Composed for Double Bass 2000, Ballad is a short lyrical solo for the intermediate player. It concentrates on the melodic and sonorous qualities of the double bass, in the lower orchestral register, and is in a basically tonal and traditional idiom.
The piano accompaniment is inventive, independent and supportive, and would be ideal for a school concert.
