Composed for Double Bass 2000, this theme and variations is based on a song by the English lutensit-composer John Dowland. Each variation has its own character and style, with a supportive and independent accompaniment, contrasting the lively and lyrical solo line. The style is basically tonal, accessible and immediate, and the edition also includes a separate advanced bass part.
Peter Lamb has composed a number of works for double bass. He writes in a modern but accessible style, slightly Gallic in flavour and approach, but always enjoyable for performers and audiences alike.
The edition also includes an extra bass part for the more advanced player.
