This set of Five Preludes for Piano was written in 1985, and they encompass a range of contrasting moods, broadly speaking - reflective and lyrical in nature.
The material for all of them derives from the first prelude, and this, together with the reappearance of a section of the first one at the end, has the effect of binding the whole structure together.
