'The Fragrance of Your Hair' for oboe and strings.
This piece was written especially for Nick Daniel, and lasts for just over 4 ½ minutes.
It started life as a song originally written for Mary Wiegold and the Composers Ensemble, scored for soprano, 2 clarinets, viola, cello and doublebass. Nick' s first version was for oboe and piano. This version is an arrangement for strings at his suggestion. In the vocal version it was a setting of a poem by Ernest Dowson, ' Even Now' , the first line of which is ' even now, the fragrance of your hair...' .
After the setting of the song, there is a rhapsodic epilogue featuring the oboe, using themes and the emotional feelings from the song. This has been totally rewritten for the oboe - the original version of the epilogue featured the viola.
Approx. 5 minutes.
