Antonio Scontrino was an Italian double bass virtuoso and composer and The Song of the Shepherd, dating from the end of the 19th-century, has been out of print for many years.
The style is lyrical and melodic, utilising much of the range of the solo double bass, and the more adventurous and virtuosic middle section is framed by cantabile episodes, often in harmonics. Many opportunities to display the sonorous qualities of the double bass.
Accompaniments for solo and orchestral tuning are included.
