Indigo was commissioned by Winifred Hall in December, 2013. She asked me simply to write some sort of piano piece with movements.
I found this intriguing and spent some time thinking about and looking at piano music to get some ideas. I did have some ideas, but nothing concrete.
Then on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 I was walking to work and stopped by Holy Trinity Catholic Church in West London to pray. I asked God to send me something; and He did.
I was only in the church for about 15 minutes when the names of the movements, the title of the suite, the main themes and the order of the movments all came to me.
I didn't understand the meaning of it all. I still don't……but is seems to be all about colour or shades of colour.
The music is simplistic and child-like, reflective, contemplative and minimalist in style, with repetitive figures which I hope create a type of mood.
Early performances of this piece include Hersham Baptist Church and The Riverside Arts Centre, Sunbury-on-Thames, UK
