Light of Unity was written in 2010 and is for two cellos and piano. It has three sections, the outer sections being Adagios with a central Allegro.
The title is from the quote below by the Persian Mystic 'Abdu'l-Bahá Abbás that prefaces the piece and concerns 'the oneness of humanity, of love and brotherhood'. The idea behind the piece is to express a unity between the different sections and the three instruments. This is achieved by developing thematic material presented at the start. The central section also represents the light that guides us, whereby the 'light of unity will shine'.
This piece was written for Polina Burdukova for performance at the Aardklop Festival, Potchefstroom, South Africa.
