A graceful and sweeping Polish Dance for Clarinet and Piano in D Minor. Treasured 'tunes' throughout exposition and second subject in B Flat Major. In parts the mood swings round to scintillating fluttery trills and Ghershwin like soaring portamente. The central tonality of D Minor encourages diminished seventh writing, the raised seventh of C Sharp a melodic feature. Second subject in a beautifully optimistic B Flat Major characterised by long crotchet clarinet rhythms. In the closing page the melodic timbre of angst recapitulates while the piano punctuates dominant seventh statement chords biting their way to the end as clarinet finally beats it's wings in fortissimo.
