Simple and supportive piano accompaniments make this useful for both educational and early recital work for the younger bassist. Lullaby has a gentle and lyrical melodic appeal; Sophie's Flute Song makes effective use of open strings, easy harmonics and pizzicato; A Little Waltz is more extended with some percussive accompaniment and A Serious Joke has a lively, rhythmic and humorous character.
