A ravishing setting of Christmas words from the 15th century, characterised by rich harmonies and a scintillating piano accompaniment.
Any choir capable of staying in tune should be able to sing this once they are used to its harmonic detours. The piano part is punctuated by some very quick flourishes, but these are written so that they lie comfortably under the fingers.
The conductor Leslie Olive once remarked 'The hand of God was on you when you wrote this.' Leslie Olive conducted the piece when it was broadcast from St Edmundsbury Catherdral in 2004 as part of a BBC Children in Need Christmas concert.
