Stylistically appropriate and playable on modern or period instruments, these cadenzas have been highly praised by Mozart specialists.
Dissatisfied with many of the existing cadenzas, which are often anachronistic and not in keeping with the style of the concerto (not to mention unplayable on period instruments), harpist Danielle Perrett commissioned these new ones from David Gough, which he completed after careful study of Mozart's own cadenzas for his piano concertos, and are therefore a little nearer perhaps to what Mozart's would have written. At a performance in Vienna, the conductor commented that they were the best and most authentic he had heard.
The difficulty level is similar to that of the concerto and thus leaves a little room for further decoration by the performers, if they so wish.
