Here are two contrasted pieces for string orchestra, designed for players of modest technical skill and fun to play, while aiming for musical substance, interest and expressiveness. They would make an effective pair as an item in a concert programme.
Variations on a ground is based on a recurring five-bar theme, given in turn to each instrumental section. The journey is a gently thoughtful one, growing somewhat in intensity in the middle and subsiding towards a peaceful close.
The mood of the Rondino is set by its driving, bold main theme, which is interspersed with other material. The coda leaves us in no doubt that the intended destination has been reached.
“Your comments about Kapustin are entirely accurate! I'm certain to be ordering much of it in the near future.” Ben, Lincoln, USA
“Thank you for the information and support. The order arrived today without any problems.” Denis, Sao Paolo, Brazil
