This contemporary string quartet follows the traditional four movement form - sonata form, scherzo, slow movement and a set of variations - while creatively 'breaking the rules' stylistically. There is consequently an element of romanticism in the writing, using techniques which occupy a space between the contemporary and the traditional - hence the title. There are even some tonque-in-cheek baroque references! The piece should appeal to a wide variety of audiences, and will enjoyably repay the work of learning it. About 18' duration.
This piece was described by fellow musicians as "Close to a masterpiece".
