Each piece explores a different soundscape, primarily in bass clef or low thumb position, and use arco, pizzicato and a few easy harmonics. These were written for specific young players and are a combination of jazz and contemprary styles. Impressive writing for both recital and educational use.
These would be ideal for post-Grade 8 students who are looking for something a little more challenging, and offer musical and technical problems in equal measure. They are effective and successful in performance and could also be a useful introduction to relaxed and easy-going 'modern' music.
